A.C.R.E.M. - NSW was formed in 1997 when Members of ACRM (NSW) and ACREM "merged" to form a single group.  ACRM was first formed around 1974 to help petition for the legalisation of CB in Australia, and later to provide an emergency communications group for the growing CB community.  ACREM was formed when ACRM Queensland added the word "Emergency" to the name.

A.C.R.E.M. - NSW Monitors utilise a callsign that consists of the acronym of the organisations name (ACREM) followed by a unique number that identifies the Monitor and the NSW Zone of that Monitor.

A.C.R.E.M. - NSW is a PUBLIC BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION and is endorsed by the Commissioner of Taxation as an Income Tax Exempt Charity and a Deductible Gift Recipient.  This means that donations or gifts to the value of $2 or more are tax deductible.  We receive absolutely NO government or corporate backing or sponsorship and ALL funds necessary to continue operations must be raised by our Members.

A.C.R.E.M. - NSW are presently active in the Sydney, Newcastle and Hunter Valley, and Northern Tablelands regions, however the organisation is state wide based and covers New South Wales only.

The objects of A.C.R.E.M. - NSW are set within our Constitution as:

(1) The PRIMARY objects of the association are:

(i) To serve and provide assistance to the community through the use of the CBRS network (27 MHz HF and 477MHz UHF bands), and other forms of radio communications, in particular to establish and maintain voluntary monitoring services to process;

(a) emergency communications involving the immediate safety of life of individuals or the immediate protection or safety of property; and

(b) emergency communications involving the potentially immediate safety of life of individuals or the potentially immediate safety of property; and

(c) communications necessary to render assistance to travellers and the community as a whole.

(ii) To provide communications support and/or support personnel to recognised emergency services, welfare organisations, and government agencies, during times of need, or when requested.

(2) The SECONDARY objects of the association are:

(i) To provide community organisations, sporting groups, and other organisations with safety communications and/or personnel to assist in safety roles, as required, to help ensure the safety of persons participating in activities and members of the community.

(ii) To provide support to community crime prevention and safety programs.

(iii) To do such other lawful things as may appear to be incidental or conductive to the above objects, or any of them, or that may be deemed as beneficial to the community in general.

(3) The powers of the association are those which legally allow the financing, pursuit and achievement of its objectives, and other lawful activities approved by the association from time to time.

Membership of A.C.R.E.M. - NSW is available is three categories, each having different criteria:

MONITORS are those active members that provide voluntary monitoring duties and perform other operational duties, as required.  Monitors must be at least 16 years of age and must undergo training and assessment in emergency communications procedures.  There are presently 5 "Grades" of Monitor available, depending upon the level of training and experience.  Each Grade is permitted to perform different duties.  Regular refresher training is a mandatory requirement for all Monitors.

ASSOCIATE Members are those unable to assist in active operational duties, for whatever reason.  They are not required to undergo any training but are also unable to participate in any activity in an operational capacity.  Minimum age is 16 years.  Associate Members may be elected to any Executive position EXCEPT a Co-ordinator or Deputy Co-ordinator.

CADETS are those Members aged under 16 years.  Cadets do not participate in operations.

Annual Subscription's are presently:  Monitor $20 (pensioner $15), Associate $15 (pensioner $10), Cadet $8.  In addition a $5 once off Joining Fee is also payable.

All Members receive an Identification Card verifying their status as an active member.  Monitors also receive training in various aspects of emergency communications, network operations, etc.

A.C.R.E.M. - NSW is primarily an emergency communications group rather than a CB club, however meeting, exercises, events and get-togethers are held where Members, their families and friends are invited to attend.
