BROKEN HILL UHF REPEATER CLUB INCORPORATED
DECEASED
The club was formed in 1987 by a
group of radio enthusiasts and businesses. The purpose was to set up and
maintain UHF Citizen band radio repeaters as a non profit community service.
The first repeater was established in April 1988 at Thackaringa Hill (call sign
THA04) by donations of materials and money raised by membership to the club.
This repeater services the Adelaide Road, Mildura Road and the NSW/SA border
area as far as Olary.
The second repeater was established in July 1989 at Glen Lyon (call sign GLH07)
again by donations and membership fees. This repeater services Broken
Hill, Menindee and the Wilcannia Road areas.
The main purpose of the repeaters today is for common communications links
between the public and emergency services for bush fires, accidents and the
recent floodings in the area. The repeaters are also used for community social
interaction.
Membership is spread from Olary in S.A. to Broken Hill and Menindee in N.S.W.,
with about 50% being property owners and graziers. Current membership entails 88
members.
Membership fee is $25 for a private individual, $100 for businesses (tax
deductable), with an annual subscription of $10 payable each July.
The club maintains the repeaters through donations and annual subscriptions.
The club is not active off-air.
The Association may be contacted by post at PO Box 1023, Broken Hill, N.S.W.
