CITIZENS RADIO EMERGENCY SERVICE TEAMS INCORPORATED (C.R.E.S.T)

What is CREST?
CREST is the name of an association of dedicated volunteers assisting your
community through a medium of two-way radios. CREST stands for Citizens Radio
Emergency Service Teams ant its volunteers monitor the Government allocated
Emergency frequencies in the Citizen Radio Bands. Since its inception in 1976,
CREST has handled many thousands of emergency and assistance calls and has the
only nationally established volunteer organisation in this field. It has
developed a good working liaison with other emergency services throughout
Australia. Simply put, the primary function of CREST is to supply that missing
link, connecting the scene of the emergency to the required service.
CREST is able to aid the public through Citizen Band radios, to summon help in
cases of accidents, road hazards and other emergencies that may cause suffering
and distress in the community. CREST can contact in a matter of seconds services
such as Police, Fire Brigade, Ambulance, Helicopter and Surf Rescue, State
Emergency Service (SES), Local government departments and many more. Many
members of the public have already been assisted by CREST. Over 14,000 calls are
processed every year and the total grows with each year that passes. CREST's
assistance to the public is not confined to answering calls of an emergency
nature. CREST assists clubs and organisations with radio communication for their
field days and fund raising events.
Objects of CREST
CREST provides communications for all sporting events if required in the areas
such as Football matches, Fun Runs, Walk-a-thons, Car Clubs, etc.
CREST also provides emergency assistance in the following categories: Aircraft
accidents, automobile accidents, boating emergency including MAYDAY calls, civil
disturbances, crime reports, explosions, rural and urban fires, floods, road
hazards, roadside assistance and roadside service calls, search and rescue,
stolen and abandoned vehicles, straying or injured stock, suicide and attempted
suicide, suspicious behaviour, taxi calls, telephone and radio message relay,
weather warnings and others.
All CREST calls are fully documented by the Monitor and records are kept at
local, State and National levels in a constant effort to update and improve the
service to the community.

What is a CREST Monitor?
CREST is made up of volunteers who man a network of radio stations throughout
Australia, monitoring the Government allocated Emergency frequencies on Citizen
Band Radios. These volunteers are called CREST Monitors. In some areas the
monitoring service is continuous, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, relaying
emergency assistance calls via radio and phone to the needed authority or
service. CREST has proved a boom in rural areas where distances are great and
telephones are scarce.
Your part in CREST
CREST needs volunteers. It needs financial assistance and it needs the support
of the community it serves. There is a position for everyone in CREST. You do
not have to be a Citizens Band Radio Operator to join CREST.By sparing a few
hours each week, you can train either as a CREST Monitor or for several
positions necessary for the continued running of CREST. There are secretarial,
treasury, public relations and fund raising jobs to do or just helping out when
man-power, (or women-power) is needed. (e.g. for field days or street stalls.)
CREST is entirely voluntary and
self supporting. It does not receive any regular Government or industry funding.
To keep growing and serving the community it needs Monitors, Members and money.
If you are unable to donate your time, please help by making a small donation of
money.....and remember CREST Saves Lives.....the next one could be yours.
