LAUNCESTON TASMANIA CLUB INCORPORATED
The L.T. Club Inc. was formed as
a Citizen Band Radio Club sometime prior to 1977. The idea behind the formation
of the Club was to enable Citizen Band users to be able to talk to one another
without fear of being caught and prosecuted by the Radio Inspectors for using
what was then, an illegal radio transmitter. The first minutes of an L.T. Club
meeting date back to February 1977, although the club came into being many years
prior to this. However, February 1977 is reconized as the date on which the Club
was officially formed and a full committee elected. The callsign of the Club
originated from the fact that the Club is based in Launceston with members in
various parts of Tasmania and extending to the states on the mainland.
The Club was very active in the fight for legalisation of the Citizen's Band
Radio Service in Tasmania by organizing several meetings with other Clubs and
attending meetings in other parts of the state. Submissions were drawn up
and forwarded on to the appropriate authorities in Canberra and finally on July
1st 1977, C.B. radio became legal throughout Australia. (It is Clubs such as the
L.T. Club who in the early days fought for the legalisation of C.B. Radio that
we all as operators say thanks to. Without the push of all Clubs and
individuals, in the early 70's, one can only speculate as to what the future of
C.B. radio might have been. - Pas.)
From the day of legalisation the L.T. Club took on a more of a social club
status with firstly a legalisation celebration dinner being held and several
other outings, get-to-gethers and competitions being arranged.. Over the years
the L.T. Club has been in the forefront in the retention and expansion of the
27Mhz Citizen's Band by arranging meetings and lodging submissions to the
relevant authorities. The U.H.F. Band has not been neglected as the Club has
held meetings with a view to obtaining a Repeater License. ( A project the Club
later withdrew from - Pas.)
1987 saw the L.T. Club take the steps to become incorporated. This was done
after much discussion and meetings that proved to be the best step for the
Club's future.
These days the Club holds many social outings for its members and friends
through the year and puts all profits back into these outings in the form of
subsides for the Club's dinners and Xmas parties as well as prizes for various
competitions that are held such as fishing competitions. The Club, over the
years, has helped many appeals, such as those of the bushfire and flood appeals,
the Year of the Disabled, M.S., and several other worthy appeals and causes.
The L.T. Club Incorporated is the oldest, largest and most active C.B. Radio
Social Club in Tasmania and perhaps the oldest CONTINUALLY ACTIVE Club of its
type in Australia. (Any other Club wish to lay claim to that status. - Pas.) It
is one of the most financial Clubs in Australia with its investments working for
the benefit of, not only the Group itself, but for other relevant matters
benefiting the community at large.
The Club's aims are to promote goodwill amongst C.B. operators, create social
functions for its members and friends as well as assist charitable organizations
and worthy appeals. Prospective members are expected to act with decorum on the
airwaves and generally abide by the ACA rules and the Gentlemen's...opps...Gentleperson's
agreement as to channel usage. Membership fees are, Adult, $7, 2nd Adult $5 (in
the same immediate family.) Members in the same family there-after, $4 with a
"Junior" fee of $5. Members receive the right to their L.T. Club
callsign, the Club newsletter, to purchase special Club Q.S.L cards, Jackets,
T-shirts, badges and other Club paraphernalia. Of course members will also be
welcomed to Club functions.
