In January 1983 the then CREST members in Hobart set up a repeater on Mt. Faulkner, North of Hobart at 900 meters which was SET01 and was put up to help St. Johns Ambulance with communications.
Some time in 1985 it was changed to HBT05 Emergency Repeater which upset some of the local operators who had donated towards it.
On
the 26 April 1987 The Southern Tasmanian UHF Repeater Association put a new
repeater to air on Grass Tree Hill as SET01.
This
repeater was moved to Mt. Faulkner and taken over by Tasvec in February 1995 due
to lack of funding towards this repeater.
In
March 1993 it was decided that a local body would be better than the national
CREST and so Tasvec was born.
With
the limit of funds that we get from donations and the loss of 60% to national,
the relationship with the authority’s needed local contact.
We
are a very small group of monitors and are always after people and donations to
help keep the repeaters on air.
The Mt. Faulkner site has become a problem site due to the amount of repeaters on site 80 and on top of the hill, so we are on the look out for a new site at a price we can afford.
