ACBRO Team Inc (CB Radio)
Australian Association Of Citizens
And Band Radio Operators Inc 1980
A
friend called on the telephone to say, “Hi.” In fact, I had not seen or
heard from him in quite a long time. So, it was with enthusiasm that I invited
him over to catch up. We began to reminisce and discuss what we had both been up
to. During the course of the conversation I mentioned that I was due to attend
the next ACBRO Committee Meeting and had invited him to come along as my guest.
To this, he exclaimed, “ACBRO! Are they still around?” Needless to say, the
answer to his question was, “Yes.”
After
a few hours and a few drinks later, the evening was over and we bid each other cheers
until next time. However, his question about ACBRO’s continued existence
prompted me to think about just how long ACBRO has been in existence and it
provoked me to ask the question, “How long will ACBRO continue to exist in the
future?”
ACBRO
has been around since the late 1970’s and has served the CB Operator, Clubs,
Associations and Groups according to its policies, codes, guidelines and
constitution. It has always been there from its inception, never wavering and
always holding fast to its aims, objects and purpose. Original Committee members still
serve on the Committee as well as Committee members who have been around on the
CB bands since before pre-legalization. To this are added the faithful and loyal
members who have supported ACBRO along the way and who ACBRO are grateful to.
It
has been in recent years that ACBRO as become more easily accessible as a result
of the Internet. ACBRO is now only an email away and as a result has seen its
web presence at www.acbro.org as a source of continuing to build up its
membership. These days, ACBRO receives many enquiries from new CB radio
operators about matters pertinent to CB radio and the Citizens Band Radio
Service. It continues to educate and promote radio communications matters and
from time to time tackles an issue or two, although these days one might agree
that they are few and far between.
Yes,
ACBRO has always been there for the operator, just like its Committee Meetings
that have always been held religiously every several weeks for all these years
gone by. Over time, its PO Box may have changed, its venues for meetings may
have varied, Committee Members have come and gone and its Membership number has
altered. But, ACBRO as an Association with its aims, objects and purpose, existing to
serve the CB fraternity, has remained the same.
So the question goes begging, “Where to from here?” When my friend was surprised to know that ACBRO was still around after all these years, I guess I could have also replied to him by saying, “As long as there are CBers around there will always be ACBRO.” AA
